Means of transport :
ligne de metro A

The RER A is a railway line crossing the Paris conurbation from east to west, passing through Paris. This line has several branches and connects the terminus Saint-Germain-en-Laye, Cergy and Poissy to the west, to the terminus Boissy-Saint-Léger and Marne-la-Vallée to the east.

The RER A line (or regional express network A), operated largely by the RATP, was opened gradually from 1969. Its total length is 109 km. Part of the RER A line is underground, especially when crossing Paris. The implementation of the underground part of the line gave rise to gigantic works in the 1970s!

The RER A is the busiest line in the network with more than 300 million passengers per year, or nearly one million passengers per day. In particular, it serves the Châtelet les Halles station, located in the heart of Paris 25 meters underground, on the site of the former Halles. This RER station is considered the largest underground station in Europe. It is in this station that the RER A and RER B cross Paris from north to south, as well as the RER D line. The Châtelet-les Halles station also allows correspondence with lines 1, 4, 7, 11, 14 from the metro. Since the end of the 1970s, the old Halles, demolished in 1971, have given way to a huge shopping center, the Forum des Halles.

Frequency of RER A trains

In the heart of the capital, expect a train every 2 to 4 minutes in each direction of traffic between 7 a.m. and 8 p.m. and a train every 6 to 8 minutes outside these times.
